Over/Under Betting Explained: Goal Lines, Splits and Settlement
One Question: How Many Goals?
An over/under bet ignores the winner entirely. The sportsbook sets a line for the total number of goals and you choose whether the match finishes above it or below it. Like the handicap, that line can be a half, a whole number or a quarter, and each one settles differently.
Half Lines: No Way to Land on Them
On a half line the total can never equal the number. Over 2.5 needs three goals or more; under 2.5 wins with two or fewer. That clean split is why most totals markets open on a half line.

Unders mirror the table: under 2.25 is half won on exactly two goals, and under 2.75 is half lost on exactly three.
A Worked Example
RM100 on over 2.75 at 0.95, and the match ends 2–1. Half the stake (RM50) sits on over 2.5 and wins RM47.50; the other half sits on over 3 and is returned. You get back RM147.50 on a RM100 stake.

Totals In-Play
Lines move during the match: after an early goal the live line climbs and the prices shift with it. In-play rules differ from one market to another — some count every goal in the match, others only the goals scored after your bet is struck — and the market rules say which. Read them before a live bet, not after.
The Same Logic Beyond Goals
Corners, cards, basketball points and badminton points markets use totals in exactly the same way: a line, an over and an under. Where the line is a whole number, a result that lands on it returns the stake.

What does over 2.5 goals mean?
The match needs three goals or more for the bet to win. Two or fewer and it loses — a half line can’t be landed on exactly.
Why did I get half my stake back on an over/under bet?
The bet was on a quarter line. Half the stake sat on the whole-number line beside it, the total landed exactly on that number, and that half came back.
Does over/under count extra time?
Football totals normally settle on regular time plus stoppage time only. Check the market rules for cup ties before you bet.
